Texas A&M football recruiting: Aggies continuing success on recruiting trail

Kevin Sumlin and his coaching staff have done an excellent job of turning their on-field success in 2012 into recruiting success in 2013. Here’s a closer look at what to expect from the Aggies on Signing Day.

Brendan Maloney-US PRESSWIRE

Other than Alabama, Texas A&M may be the hottest football program in the country. In their first season in the SEC, the Aggies went 10-2, and look to have found a new gear under head coach Kevin Sumlin. Sumlin and his staff have done an excellent job parlaying their on-field success into success on the recruiting trail, as every major recruiting service has their 2013 class rated in the top 10. The staff took a hit when they lost offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury to Texas Tech, but the future is still looking bright in College Station.

Texas A&M currently has 25 commitments in their 2013 class, and just welcomed nine early enrollees for the spring semester. Here’s a look at some of the big names that will be suiting up in College Station in the near future

Ricky Seals-Jones: The 6’5, 220 lb Sealy, TX native is listed as an athlete or wide receiver, depending on which service you go to. Either way, he’s a consensus top 30 prospect in the country, regardless of position classification, and could be primed to put up big numbers in Sumlin’s high powered offense.

JaQuay Williams: Williams has already enrolled at A&M, and will take part in the team’s spring practice coming up in March. The 6’3, 205 lb WR from Fork Union Military Academy is a consensus four star player, and could give defensive coordinators across the SEC fits when paired with Seals-Jones. Williams was an Auburn commit until late November, and committed to the Aggies about a week later.

Justin Manning: Coach Sumlin and his staff aren’t just recruiting offensive skill players, as they’ve also landed the commitment of Manning, a 6’2, 275 lb defensive tackle from Dallas. Stopping the run in the SEC is of paramount importance, and there’s a good chance we’ll see Manning making plays in the trenches soon.

Isaiah Golden: Manning isn’t the only highly heralded DT in this class, as the 6’3, 300 lb Kimball, TX native has also signed on for the Aggies. Both Manning and Golden are rated in the top 10 of DT prospects, and should help keep the interior of the defensive line stout for the next several years.
