He considered himself “50/50” between the Ducks and Bucks, with both Oregon and Ohio State feeling good about their chances. However, the promotion of former offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich to head coach kept Wilson in the fold for a while.
Wilson is ranked as one of the top-10 all-purpose backs in the country and a top-10 player in the state of Texas. The 5’10, 170-pounder held offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Clemson, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Texas A&M, USC, and West Virginia, in addition to his three finalists.

USA TODAY SportsThe Ohio State Buckeyes picked up another big all-purpose back on Monday evening when 2013 DeSoto (Texas) running back Dontre Wilson selected the Buckeyes over the Oregon Ducks and Texas Longhorns in an announcement on local television.
The 5-10, 170-pound Wilson had been committed to Oregon since last May, but decided to open up his recruitment after Chip Kelly left for the NFL. The hiring of Mark Helfrich was expected to help keep him committed to the Ducks, but after official visits to Ohio State and Texas, with the persuasions of Urban Meyer helping to win out.

Wilson took an official visit over the weekend to Texas and is still committed to Oregon, but all the rumors on Monday had the experts picking Wilson to end up at Ohio State. It would stand to reason that if Wilson merely wanted to reaffirm his commitment, he would be less likely to do so on local television and would instead merely inform the services of his decision.

A consensus four-star prospect ranked among the top all-purpose backs in the country, Wilson has remained committed to Oregon despite the departure of Chip Kelly to the NFL. Wilson also visited Ohio State last weekend. His father said afterwards that he was 50/50 between the Ducks and Buckeyes, but the Texas coaches managed to convince him to trip down to Austin.
Of the three, the biggest surprise visitor is the five-star defensive end Herron, an Army All-American and top-100 player nationally who was recruited by new Texas running back coach Larry Porter when Porter was the head coach at Memphis. News didn’t break about his visit until he was already on campus.

Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer just couldn’t wait to see 2013 DeSoto running back Dontre Wilson, the Oregon commit who is going to take visits despite remaining pledged to the Ducks after Chip Kelly’s departure to the NFL:
Wilson will take an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, but Meyer clearly wanted to emphasize to Wilson how important he is to late Buckeye recruiting efforts. Offensive coordinator Tom Herman had already gone by DeSoto to see Wilson late last week.

So there are now three potential visits set up for Wilson, who took his official visit to Oregon back in early October and received an in-home from Chip Kelly on Tuesday, just before Kelly took the Eagles job.

With a report out that 2013 DeSoto running back Dontre Wilson could take a visit to Ohio State, and possibly other schools, the all-purpose back spoke briefly with ESPN ($) on Wednesday after the news that head coach Chip Kelly had departed Eugene for the NFL:
And what is it? Well, it’s business as usual for college recruits, who have absolutely no guarantees that the head coach that they commit to will still be there when they sign, a major reason why many observers of the process recommend to young players that they commit to a program instead of a coach.
