Robert Nkemdiche indicates LSU visit days before Signing Day

Nation’s #1 recruit announces surprise visit to Baton Rouge.

The nation’s top-rated recruit, Georgia-based defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, told the assembled masses on Twitter Thursday night that he would, in fact, visit LSU this weekend:

The visit comes as a surprise. Nkemdiche had reportedly canceled his planned visit to Baton Rouge earlier this week after taking his official visit to presumed frontrunner Ole Miss last week. Either those reports were incorrect or Nkemdiche had a change of heart.

The LSU visit does not drastically change the calculus for teams chasing the nation’s top prospect. Mississippi, where Nkemdiche’s brother plays linebacker, remains the presumed favorite, with LSU, Florida and Georgia in hot pursuit. Nevertheless, the official visit gives Les Miles and his staff one final opportunity to put the full court press on Nkemdiche before his announcement, planned for 7:30 a.m. ET on Signing Day, February 7.

Nkemdiche has been the No. 1 prospect on the board at Rivals, Scout, 24/7 and ESPN throughout this recruiting season. The strongside defensive end measures 6-foot-5 and weighs 260 pounds.
