Kylie Fitts decommits from USC football: ‘Trust lost,’ says high school coach

The four-star prospect was considered a solid commitment for the Trojans very recently, but things can change quickly in recruiting.

USA TODAY Sports

Four-star defensive end prospect Kylie Fitts has decommited from the USC Trojans, according to his Twitter account. Fitts is the third major decommitment for USC in the past several weeks, following in the wake of five-star defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes and four-star wide receiver Sebastian LaRue.

According to one account (Fitts’ high school coach), it’s due to USC’s management:

Redlands East Valley Coach Kurt Bruich said on Tuesday that Fitts is no longer headed to USC after the Trojans told him on Monday they no longer had a spot for him to enroll early and wanted him to wait until June.

“The trust has been lost,” Bruich said. “He did everything they asked of him.”

The news comes as a bit of a surprise to the recruiting world, as Fitts’ commitment to the Trojans seemed to be pretty solid just a few days ago.

The 6’4, 260-pound Redlands, CA, native is rated as a four-star prospect by all the major recruiting services, and is a consensus top-10 defensive end prospect. His decommitment leaves the Trojans with only two defensive ends on their commitment list, in the persons of four-star prospects Torrodney Prevot and Jason Hatcher.

National Signing Day is now less than a month away on Feb. 6. However, a lot can happen between now and then.
