Texas hosting important visitors for Red River Rivalry

The Longhorns are the home team this year.

As the Texas Longhorns seek to avoid yet another blowout loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in Saturday's Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, numerous high-profile recruits will be in attendance for the game.

Since the Longhorns are the home team this year, they are hosting the visitors for the annual grudge match.

One of the most important prospects expected to be at the game is Coppell (Texas) defensive end Solomon Thomas, one of the top remaining uncommitted players in the state. Thomas already visited Texas this fall for the game against Ole Miss and has also visited Arkansas recently in addition to taking his official visit to Stanford last weekend.

A monster 2015 prospect who will be in attendance is 2015 Mesquite (Texas) Poteet linebacker Malik Jefferson, who just added offers from Alabama and Notre Dame. Jefferson was close with former defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, so there is some thought that Texas has slid a bit with him following the termination of Diaz after starting out as one of the frontrunners for Jefferson’s services.

Another linebacker who has said he will be at the game is Dallas (Texas) Skyline’s Anthony Wheeler, a potential defensive end or situational edge rusher in college who is ranked as the No. 5 inside linebacker nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings and is thought to be a heavy Texas lean at this time.

Several other top 2015 prospects from the Metroplex area are expected to make their way to the State Fair to watch the game, including recruits from South Oak Cliff. The top target among them for the Longhorns is Skyline transfer Jordan Stevenson, a running back whose importance to the class has increased with the commitments of two former Texas running back targets to Texas A&M.
