Solomon Thomas recruit updates: 2014 defensive lineman

One of the top defensive linemen in the country has finally made his college decision, as five-star defensive end Solomon Thomas will spend his college days at Stanford. Thomas chose the Tree over 31 FBS offers, with Arkansas, Stanford and UCLA considered his finalists.

Stanford’s class entered the day ranked in the top 15, and Thomas’ commitment should help inch the Cardinal toward the final top 10.

U.S. Army All-American and consensus five-star prospect Solomon Thomas, a defensive end out of Coppell (Texas), is now down to three finalists after eliminating two schools on Monday.

Once a favorite, the Longhorns faded down the stretch as a result of coaching changes, while the Buckeyes had merely hung around in the recruitment of Thomas.

Since the Longhorns are the home team this year, they are hosting the visitors for the annual grudge match.

A monster 2015 prospect who will be in attendance is 2015 Mesquite (Texas) Poteet linebacker Malik Jefferson, who just added offers from Alabama and Notre Dame. Jefferson was close with former defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, so there is some thought that Texas has slid a bit with him following the termination of Diaz after starting out as one of the frontrunners for Jefferson’s services.

Sure, he could continue adding weight to his 260-pound frame, but the conclusive takeaway from a dominating performance at Sunday’s Dallas Nike Football Training Camp that earned him the defensive line MVP award and a trip to The Opening at the end of June, is that Thomas has the ability to be an edge rusher in college.
