Oregon football recruiting: Royce Freeman, Arrion Springs headline small class

Jonathan Ferrey

Oregon has just nine commitments in its 2014 recruiting class, which is one reason why the group ranks 47th nationally and sixth within the Pac-12, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. The Ducks’ recent additions have strengthened the class significantly.

The headliner so far is consensus four-star running back Royce Freeman, who is from Imperial (Calif.) Imperial High School. Freeman is regarded as one of the top 10 players at both his position and in the state of California; he is 62nd-best overall player in the class, according to the composite.

The Ducks also have a commitment from Arrion Springs, a consensus four-star defensive back from San Antonio (Texas) Roosevelt High School. Like Freeman, Springs is widely considered a top-100 player in the class. He’s also the No. 9 player at his position and a top-15 player in the state of Texas.

On target

Oregon’s top target is probably receiver Budda Baker, of Bellevue (Wash.) High School. Baker is a solid future four-star recruit who is also heavily pursued by Washington.
