Nebraska has not been able to build a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail this cycle, at least when it comes to blue-chip players. The Cornhuskers have 12 commitments, but they are all consensus three-star prospects, and the class ranks 45th nationally, as well as seventh in the Big Ten. Quite frankly, this is not a class that will help Nebraska to be one of the top teams in the Big Ten.
Nebraska recruiting 2014: Peyton Newell, Monte Harrison top ‘Huskers’ class
The Cornhuskers have some work to do in order to catch up with their high-profile peers.

A lot can change between now and signing day in February, and Nebraska did pick up its most well-regarded player recently -- defensive tackle Peyton Newell committed at the end of August. He was the first player to commit to Nebraska since early July.
Newell, who hails from Hiawatha (Kan.) Senior High School, is considered the No. 319 overall prospect in the 2014 class, per the 247Sports composite ratings. He is also regarded as a top-30 player at his position and one of the five-best players from the state of Kansas.
Monte Harrison, a wide receiver from Lee’s Summit (Mo.) West High School, is another key piece of the Cornhuskers’ class. Harrison is ranked similarly to Newell on the national scale, and he is the No. 47 player at his position, as well as a top-five player in the state of Missouri.
Highland Park (Ill.) High School offensive lineman Tanner Farmer is also one of the top prospects in the class. He is considered one of the top-20 guards in the country and one of the top-15 players in Illinois.
