Dave Doeren was brought on board to inject life into N.C. State’s program and boost its recruiting efforts, and while the results thus far haven’t been spectacular, there are signs that his staff is making inroads. The Wolfpack has 22 commitments for 2014, and the class is ranked 30th nationally, as well as sixth within the ACC.

N.C. State’s 2014 recruiting class isn’t heavy on star power, but it’s nonetheless a good start for head coach Dave Doeren.

N.C. State doesn’t have commitments from any consensus four- or five-star prospects at this point; the vast majority of the class is made up of three-star prospects.
Most recently, the program got a commitment three-star guard Tyler Jones, who flipped from Mississippi State. Other than that, it’s been a quiet few months -- most of the Wolfpack’s pledges occurred between April and July.
Here’s a glance at some of the top players in the class:
Justin Jones is a consensus three-star defensive end. The Austell (Ga.) South Cobb High School product is the No. 20 weakside defensive end prospect in the country and the No. 421 player overall.
Cole Cook is a tight end prospect from Carrollton (Ga.) Carrollton High School and a three-star player. He is regarded as the No. 20 player at his position and the No. 490 overall prospect in the 2014 class, as well as a top-40 player from the state of Georgia.
Three-star safety Germaine Pratt hails from High Point (N.C.) High Point Central High School, and he’s rated similarly to both Justin Jones and Cook. Pratt is regarded as the No. 32 safety in the country, and a top-15 player from North Carolina.
Jalan McClendon might be Doeren’s quarterback of the future (if he sticks with NCSU, of course) and was one of the first verbals in the class. The three-star recruit is from West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte and is considered a top-25 pro-style QB prospect nationally.
The aforementioned Tyler Jones, who is from Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson High School, is the No. 35 guard prospect in the country and the No. 649 player overall. He originally committed to Mississippi State in June.
