Defensive back Arrion Springs pledged to play his college football for Oregon at The Opening on Tuesday, giving the Ducks their seventh commit of the Class of 2014.

Springs, out of Roosevelt High School in San Antonio , is listed as a consensus four-star cornerback by the major recruiting services. ESPN ranked him as the No. 7 player at his position, while 247 Sports, Scout and Rivals list him at Nos. 8, 12 and 26, respectively.

Springs set to decide between Oregon, Texas

BEAVERTON, Oregon -- San Antonio (Texas) Roosevelt cornerback Arrion Springs finally made his long-awaited trip out to Oregon about two weeks ago and is set to make his decision while in Oregon for the prestigious Nike event.

The universal expectation from the industry based on the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions have the 5’11, 190-pound cornerback choosing the Ducks. However, a recent trip up I-35 to Austin to visit with the Longhorns may have helped Texas, a school that appeared out of the running early but managed to claw back into his recruitment.

Those visits may end up being formalities and if Springs sees what he wants to see when he gets on campus at Oregon, it’s not hard to imagine a scenario in which he commits on the spot.

And it would seem that only cold feet about the distance from home could keep him from ending up as a Duck on Signing Day, but he has been adamant for at least a year that he’s ready to head out of state, so a late reversal seems unlikely.

When San Antonio (Texas) Roosevelt cornerback Arrion Springs spoke with SB Nation Recruiting last summer, he was still looking for his first offer and was set on heading out of state for college, with Florida and childhood favorite USC the two teams he mentioned early.

He was also intent on showing off his skills as a cornerback after spending most of his time as a sophomore playing safety. Some impressive testing results and his work at 7-on-7 and in camps was enough at the time to convince Florida coach Will Muschamp that he could play the position.
