Su’a Cravens enrolled at USC: safety recruit could play early

Su’a Cravens is the best of two blue-chip safeties to choose USC, having committed in June. Cravens, a southern California native, is considered one of the top ten players at any position in the nation.

Su’a Cravens officially joins USC Wednesday, as the five-star safety signs with the school he committed to in June.

Cravens, a 6-foot-1, 205-pounder from Murrieta, California, is universally considered the top safety in his class. There was some talk of the player as a linebacker, as Derrell Warren wrote when breaking down the recruit in April. Cravens had dozens of offers, but was most notably considering Michigan and USC’s rival in southern California, UCLA, before he eventually committed in June.

Cravens is considered to have college-ready athletic ability, so he could play right away. USC had a star safety in T.J. McDonald last year, but he's gone after graduating, meaning Cravens could compete for playing time. He played running back in high school, but nobody projects him to play offense in college.

Despite NCAA sanctions and a disappointing 7-6 season, Lane Kiffin has once again landed one of the top classes in the country. USC is universally considered in the top ten of recruiting rankings, and they’re especially strong in the defensive backfield, with four-star safety Max Redfield joining Cravens at the safety position.
