Running back recruit Kelvin Taylor enrolled at Florida: Fred’s son follows in his footsteps

One of the best running backs in the 2013 class is headed to Gainesville.

Kelvin Taylor, son of former NFL running back Fred Taylor, has signed his letter of intent to play at Florida. Taylor is following in the footsteps of his father, who also played football for the Gators. Taylor held offers from most SEC programs, as well as in-state schools Florida State, Miami, and South Florida. Despite all those options, it seemed that the younger Taylor was destined for Gainesville, as he committed to the school during his junior year.

Taylor has the potential to be a workhorse for the Gators. He is strong and stays low to the ground, allowing him to pick up yardage after contact. Taylor was the offense at Glades Day High School, amassing an absurd 2,423 yards and 41 touchdowns on 237 carries during his senior season. He actually played five seasons of high school ball, earning All-State honors as an eighth grader.

Of course, going to a smaller school has its disadvantages. Taylor spent most of his time carrying the ball out of the backfield as the focal point and rarely had to work on things like pass blocking and receiving. He is fully aware of where he needs to improve, as he discussed in an interview with MaxPreps in 2012.

Vitals: 5’11, 216 pounds, 4.63 40

Other offers: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Miami, South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee
