5-star Robert Foster signs with Alabama: Tide gets its receiver

Robert Foster joins what should be a surprisingly strong receiving corps for an Alabama team after committing to the two-time national champions over his hometown team of Pitt.

Robert Foster made official his decision to play for the defending two-time national champions, as the four-star wide receiver signed with the Alabama Crimson Tide Wednesday.

Foster, a central Pennsylvania native, had a strange final decision: he was between Alabama, typically in the mix for top recruits, and Pitt, who typically aren’t. Foster, whose hometown of Monaca, Pennsylvania is only 25 miles from Pittsburgh, made those two schools his official visits, and had them in his final two fter a final seven including Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, USC, and Oregon. He was expected to go with Pitt, and Pitt blog Cardiac Hill eagerly expected him to go with Paul Chryst’s squad. But in December, Foster decided to go with the Tide. That didn’t exactly go over well with Pitt fans, as he would have been the biggest get in their recruiting class.

The Crimson Tide aren't known for their offense, much less their passing, but they'll have a strong corps of receivers in 2013 with A.J. McCarron hoping to be the third quarterback to win three straight national titles. Amari Cooper made his impact right away as a freshman in 2012, leading the team with 1,000 yards - twice as many as anybody else - and the team doesn't graduate any of its top four receivers in terms of yardage That could make breaking in a little bit difficult, but second and third receivers Kevin Norwood and Kenny Bell will both be seniors, so the 6-foot-3 Foster should get his chance to shine by his sophomore year.
