Laquon Treadwell, nation’s top receiver, signs with Ole Miss

Hugh Freeze fought hard to land Laquon Treadwell, swaying the player who once was considered a lock to attend Michigan to commit to Ole Miss. The 6’3 Treadwell is considered the nation’s best wide receiver..

The top receiver in the nation will play for Ole Miss, as Laquon Treadwell has signed with the Rebels Wednesday after having committed in January.

Saying Treadwell is a catch for Ole Miss is an understatement: Red Cup Rebellion wrote about how important Treadwell was to the Rebels and their improved recruiting efforts, and Wes Eberts of SB Nation compiled what parts of Treadwell’s skill set make him the top receiver in the country: to summarize, he’s a complete wide receiver, 6’3 with speed and loads of catching ability.

Although Treadwell was long considered likely to pick Ole Miss, it wasn’t always that way. As recently as July, the Crete, Ill., product was expected to choose Michigan. However, Hugh Freeze and his staff slowly convinced Treadwell to come to the Rebels -- well, first, they convinced his mom -- and eventually, Treadwell committed to Ole Miss on Jan. 17, picking the Rebels over Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. He took some late trips elsewhere -- and tweeted out some money -- but stuck with the Rebels.

Although Treadwell is a consensus five-star receiver, Red Cup Rebellion found it unlikely that he immediately jumps into a big role in Ole Miss' offense. A trio of receivers on Donte Moncrief, Vincent Sanders, and Ja-Mes Logan who already have rapport with Bo Wallace all return, although Treadwell will likely work his way into the mix by the time he leaves Oxford.
