Safety recruit Dymonte Thomas enrolled at Michigan

Dymonte Thomas is one of two top safety recruits coming to Ann Arbor to play for the Wolverines. The Army All-American is already enrolled at Michigan and will play with the team through spring ball.

Stud safety recruit Dymonte Thomas has been committed to Michigan for well over a year, and now the Ohio native is an early enrollee for the Wolverines.

Thomas enrolled at Michigan in January shortly after participating in the Army All-American game, and will be a member of the team through spring ball and play in Michigan’s annual spring game. While some members of his class are still picking hats, Thomas is already a Wolverine.

The 6’1, 190-pound player was a running back and linebacker in high school for Marlington in Alliance, Ohio, but has been considered a four-star at the safety spot since early in his recruiting process. He’s considered a five-star recruit by Scout, who have him as the No. 4 safety in the country and a four-star by other services. He’s easily a top-five recruit in the state of Ohio at any position, making him a nice get for Michigan, and is considered to be a top-100 player nationally by Scout and ESPN, but he’s just past the century mark at 109 per Rivals.

There wasn’t much drama in Thomas’ recruitment: he committed to the Wolverines early, back in September of 2011, and although Ohio State would offer him later on, he wouldn’t switch sides in the rivalry.

Thomas is one of two four-star safety recruits in Michigan's elite incoming class, alongside Delano Hill. Maize N Brew's recruiting analyst broke down Thomas' performance in the Army All-American game, and thinks he could play right off the bat at a spot that loses a three-year starter in all-Big Ten second teamer Jordan Kovacs:

All in all, Thomas was not far behind Henry Poggi for the most impressive performance of the weekend. Although freshman safeties usually equal doom, and his deep coverage is not impeccable, I wouldn't be shocked to see Michigan find a way to use him next year ala Jarrod Wilson. Since I think he'll be a SS, that would place him behind MRob (Marvin Robinson) for the season.

Here’s a look at Thomas’ information:

Ratings: Scout, five stars (No. 4 positionally); ESPN, four stars (No. 10 positionally, No. 4 state); Rivals, four stars (No. 12 positionally, No. 5 state)

Vitals: 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, 4.57 40

Other offers: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Iowa

Twitter: Thomas tweets at @Dymonte1.

Recruitment timeline: Thomas committed to Michigan in September, 2011, and has been steadfast since.
