Kendall Fuller signs with Virginia Tech: Hokies’ legacy recruit could play early

The five-star cornerback is a Hokie legacy, and will follow his three brothers to Blacksburg to play football under Frank Beamer.

The Virginia Tech Hokies locked up one of the best players in the 2013 recruiting cycle today, signing five-star cornerback Kendall Fuller to a letter of intent. Fuller is a Hokie legacy, whose three brothers (Corey, Kyle, and Vincent) all played football for Frank Beamer in Blacksburg.

The 6’0”, 175 lb Olney (Md.) Good Council product is rated as one of the top cornerback prospects in the nation, with only Florida commit Vernon Hargreaves III consistently ranked ahead of him. He is also a consensus top 30 player in the 2013 recruiting class.

Fuller chose Virginia Tech over Clemson, and mentioned during an interview with 247Sports that he thought the coaches at Virginia Tech would better prepare him for the NFL. The Hokies have put a number of defensive backs into the NFL over the past decade, including his brother Vincent, who is currently a safety for the Tennessee Titans.

There's a good chance that Fuller could get some early playing time in the Hokies secondary, as their top cornerback, Antone Exum, tore his ACL playing a pickup basketball game in late January. Exum is expected to be out of service for six to nine months, which opens the possibility that Fuller could start at corner across the field from his brother, Kyle, who will be a senior in 2013.

Ratings: Five-star (247, Rivals, Scout), four-star (ESPN)

Vitals: 6’0”, 175 lbs, 4.5 second 40 yard days

Other offers: Alabama, Boston College, Cal, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, West Virginia

Twitter: One can find Fuller on Twitter @KENyoufeelmee. Here’s a sample of what you’ll find:

Recruitment timeline: Fuller committed to the Hokies on Jul. 29, 2012, and has been firmly in their camp since that day. In fact, he hasn’t even visited any other schools since the date of his commitment.
