UCLA Bruins quarterback Todd Hundley will have an elite deep threat at his disposal next fall in Mesquite (Texas) West Mesquite wide receiver Eldridge Massington, who is already enrolled at UCLA.
Eldridge Massington enrolled at UCLA after spurning Arizona State
The elite deep threat is already on campus in Westwood.
A consensus four-star prospect ranked as the no. 23 wide receiver nationally and the no. 25 player in the state of Texas, Massington is currently trying to work his way back from an ACL injury he sustained last summer during a camp at Tennessee that caused him to miss his entire senior season. Prior to Massington’s commitment to UCLA in the middle of December, the 6-3, 200-pounder held offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and many others.
Massington was pledged to USC until December, when they told him that they did not have room for him to enroll early, sparking a wild two-week stretch that saw him visit Alabama, UCLA, and Arizona State before settling on the Bruins.
A remarkable athlete who ran in the 10.5 range in the 100m last spring after seemingly dropping his time every week, Massington is also extremely impressive physical and was an elite deep threat during his junior season because of his elite vertical speed.
However, Massington didn’t stand out at The Opening and didn’t even see the field for his team for long stretches of time. There are also concerns about his route-running ability because he didn’t show a great deal of versatility in that regard on his highlight film.
Overall, though, when Massington gets his knee back to full strength and has a chance to work on his route running, there’s a chance that he could contribute as a freshman and a strong chance that he ends up as a valuable vertical target before his time in Westwood comes to an end.
