Laremy Tunsil commits to Ole Miss over Georgia, Alabama

Laremy Tunsil, the consensus choice as the nation’s top offensive line prospect, has announced he’ll sign a letter of intent to play at Ole Miss. Tunsil chose the Rebels out of more than 20 offers. When SB Nation talked to him this summer, he said his choice would be determined by “environment, coaching and education.”

Entering the final two weeks before Signing Day, Tunsil had apparently narrowed his field to Alabama and Georgia. Ole Miss made a late push, with Friday’s news making the Rebels sound like the sudden and surprising favorite. As Tunsil told reporters after his visit to Oxford, he was “confused” as to where to go:

“Oh man, it surprised me a lot,” Tunsil said with a smile on his face. “I didn’t think they would have many things to show me, but it was real good. I didn’t think their facilities were like that. They showed me all of that. I didn’t think the program would change as fast as it has.

Tunsil, who hails from Lake City, Florida, was ranked as the top offensive tackle prospect nationally by Rivals, Scout, 24/7, and ESPN. All four services rate him as a five-star player and within the country’s top 15 overall prospects. He was a USA Today All-American, played in the U.S. Army All-American Game, and was the consensus Florida 6A Player of the Year.

Tunsil joins a Rebel team with Austin Golson on the offensive line. Given the current depth chart, it looks likely that Tunsil will start for Ole Miss.

Ratings: Tunsil received five stars from all the major scouting agencies.

Vitals: At 6’6 and 295 pounds, Tunsil has the size to step in immediately and contribute on the offensive line. He also has extremely long arms and surprising agility for a player of his size.

Other offers: Tunsil held an offer sheet that included Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida State, USC, Notre Dame, Florida, and virtually every program south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Twitter: Laremy Tunsil is available on Twitter at @LaremyTunsil. Which makes sense, really.
