Ishmael Wilson signs with Texas A&M

The Aggies have evaluated offensive line talent well in recent years.

The Texas A&M Aggies have had outstanding tackle play for the last few years with Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews and may continue to stand out in that regard moving forward with the addition of Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne offensive tackle Ishmael Wilson, who signed with the Aggies on Wednesday.

A consensus four-star prospect, the 6-5, 290-pound Wilson is the no. 14 offensive tackle nationally and the no. 31 player in the state in the 247Sports composite rankings. He held offers from Baylor, California, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt, among others, and likely would have seen interest increase across the country had he opted to extend the process past February of 2012.

Wilson is an athletic prospect who has a strong chance of staying at the tackle position in college because he possesses the requisite foot speed, agility, and overall flexibility to pass set against good college edge rushers and get to the second level to make effective blocks on linebackers. Like most high school offensive linemen, there are elements of his game like his consistent pad level that need some work before he can contribute, but all the physical tools are there for Wilson to succeed in College Station.

Perhaps the bigger question is whether head coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff can develop offensive linemen as well as his predecessor, Mike Sherman, whose specialty was as an offensive line coach.

Recruitment timeline: Wilson committed to A&M in February of 2012 and remained firm throughout the process.
