David Blough scouting report: Underrecruited 2014 pro-style quarterback

David Blough could be one of those under-the-radar quarterbacks in the 2014 recruiting class.

As a pro-style quarterback that is still trying to attract major buzz, David Blough is going to be one of those players that could garner plenty of attention in the 2013 recruiting class. The Carrollton (Tex.) Creekview High prospect still is in the early stages of his recruitment, but as a quarterback with upside it’s unlikely he’ll fly under the radar for much longer.

One of the standouts at the Dallas Elite 11 and NFTC camps, Blough is a pro-style quarterback who stands at a height of 6’1 and weighs in at 180 pounds. 247Sports has him ranked the 29th best pro-style quarterback and the 80th best recruit in the state of Texas. In the 247Sports Composite rankings, Blough is considered a three-star prospect.
As of the end of April, Blough has yet to receive an offer, although the interest is ramping up. Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Rice, SMU, TCU, and Tulsa are among the schools that have shown early interest. You can find Blough on Twitter at @David_Blough10.

Although a bit undersized for the position, it’s surprising that Blough is yet to attract more attention from colleges -- his mechanics are clean for a quarterback of his age and his arm is strong enough to throw out routes from the opposite hash. He can get the ball out quickly on his three-step drops and on his more complicated reads, he can move through his progressions to find the open receiver.

When he needs some extra velocity, he can push off his back foot and flashes above-average arm strength, as well as the ability to throw the ball with touch. With his accuracy he can place the ball on the correct shoulder to allow his receivers to seamlessly get upfield and make yards after the catch.

An above-average athlete for the position, Blough doesn’t project as a running quarterback at the college level, but he can make some plays with his feet and appears comfortable throwing on the run, in large part because he does a strong job of making sure that he is square to the line of scrimmage when he throws. On the move, Blough keeps his eyes downfield to make plays before pulling the ball down to run.
