2015 QB/WR Chad President commits to the Baylor Bears

Even though it is still extremely early in the process for 2015 recruits, the decision was not particularly surprising -- all three 247Sports recruiting analysts who shared their predictions in the service’s Crystall Ball feature correctly that President would eventually pledge to the Bears.

Despite his proximity to Waco, the future at quarterback for Temple didn’t grow up a fan of the Bears:

He’s the first commit of the 2015 class for Baylor and is currently on pace to enroll early.

A 6-3, 195-pounder who could well continue growing, President mostly played receiver as a sophomore, but stepped in for 2013 TCU signee Zach Allen briefly and will be the starting quarterback next fall for the Wildcats. Currently ranked as the no. 12 player on the debut edition of the 2015 LSR, President projects as a solid four-star prospect and held offers from Texas and Texas Tech prior to his pledge to the nearby Bears.

One of the early candidates to be the top receiver in the class, along with Cedar Hill’s Demarkus Lodge, President flashed some of the tools to be a quarterback in college during his brief time at the position as a sophomore and has the potential to convince Baylor head coach Art Briles to play him there in college with some development over the next two years. In fact, the Bears recruited President as a quarterback.

However, President may have even more upside at wide receiver, especially if he does reach 6’5 and maintains his athleticism, which is currently exceptional for his height. Like many tall wide receivers, his speed is deceptive because of his height and overall fluidity at the position. When he beats press coverage at the line of scrimmage, he’s fast enough to run away from defensive backs.

With an average of more than 23 yards per catch as a sophomore, President is a proven big-play threat who can also break tackles because of his size and strength, in addition to possessing the savvy to find holes in zone defenses and make himself available to his quarterback.

In other words, President has all the tools to become another in what is an increasingly long line of Baylor wide receivers as Briles’ offense continues to produce at nationally-elite levels, which is in turn fueling Bear success on the recruiting trail offensively.
