Norman (Ok.) North pro-style quarterback David Cornwell was head and shoulders above the field at Saturday’s Dallas Elite 11 camp, but it took another strong performance on Sunday to earn him the invite that he really wanted:
David Cornwell earns invite to Elite 11 Finals
The big gunslinger impressed over the weekend at the Dallas Elite 11 regional camp and the Nike Football Training Camp.

Congrats @davidcornwell5 for the 1st Golden Ticket to the @elite11 Finals. Two days of #NoFlinch competing and made the difficult look easy

Elite 11 camp coach and ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer told SB Nation Recruiting after the event that Cornwell was close to earning the invite on Saturday, but that he wanted to see him work against live competition on Sunday before making the call for Cornwell to become the first invite to what will be a smaller group of Elite 11 quarterbacks this year.
How good was Cornwell? At 6-5 and 230 pounds, he already looks like a college quarterback with one year still left in high school and drew a comparison from Dilfer to Ben Roethlisberger, one that the Super Bowl champion surely did not make lightly. With elite arm talent and impressive athleticism for his size, Cornwell is the prototype for a pro-style quarterback.
The other big announcement from the conclusion of the NFTC on Sunday was that the Elite 11 finals and the premier recruiting event of the summer, The Opening, which is held at the Nike facility in Oregon, will both take place at the same time this year, from June 28th to July 3rd.
