Barker’s Elite 11 invite was hardly painless

This year, one of the victims was Kentucky commit Drew Barker, a consensus four-star prospect from Hebron (Kent.) Conner, who earned his golden ticket at the Columbus NFTC on June 2.

Out of Hebron (KY) Conner High School, Drew Barker is a consensus four-star recruit with solid accuracy and a lot of high school production. The 6’4, 210-pound Barker is seen as the centerpiece of Kentucky’s recruiting class under head coach Mark Stoops. As a junior, he passed for over 2,000 yards with 22 TDs and seven interceptions. He’ll play instate for Kentucky--his other offers included Cincinnati, Illinois, Louisville, North Carolina, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee and Western Kentucky. Barker was the QB MVP at the Columbus NFTC.

While new head coach Mark Stoops hasn’t coached a game yet, his ability to recruit both fans and future players has breathed life into a fan base that all but gave up on former head coach Joker Phillips.
The biggest recruiting victory for Stoops so far came from a prospect in his own backyard. Quarterback Drew Barker committed to the Wildcats in May and has since become a recruiter himself. His commitment generated more excitement around Kentucky than has been there is quite some time, and at Saturday’s Elite 11 Camp in Columbus, Barker showed why.
