Jordan Davis decommits from the Florida State Seminoles, will visit Texas A&M

An early 2015 commitment is now back on the market, but likely not for long.

One of the hazards of early recruiting is that some prospects commit, but continue to make visits. That’s exactly what happened with Houston (Texas) Clear Lake tight end Jordan Davis, who committed to Florida State back in March, but decided to open up his recruitment again on Wednesday.

The 6’5, 250-pound Davis is one of the top 10 tight ends in the country, according to 247Sports. He is ranked as a four-star prospect. Holding offers from Arizona, Florida, Missisippi State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Texas, Davis has some high-profile options on the table already, but his re-opened recruitment isn’t expected to last much longer -- the Aggies are the prohibitive favorite to quickly earn his commitment after he finally received his offer at a Sunday minicamp.

To that likely end, Davis will visit College Station on Thursday, according to Taylor Hamm of gigem247.com.

Davis often lines up as a wide receiver for Clear Lake, and the ability to continue doing so in head coach Kevin Sumlin’s Air Raid offense is likely appealing to him. After all, all tight ends like to be told they are a big wide receiver instead of just being forced to do the dirty work and blocking.

Of course, the A&M staff isn’t telling Davis that just to get him signed and on campus -- he is actually a remarkably strong athlete for his size, registering a 37.5-inch vertical at the Dallas NFTC and turning in a 4.44 shuttle time that is impressive for someone sitting right near 250 pounds.

Davis presents a big target for his current and future quarterbacks. With strong hands, he can finish plays after using his speed and agility to create separation.

The decision by Davis to decommit leaves Florida State with two commitments in the 2015 class, while Texas A&M is still working on adding their first pledge.
