2015 TE Jordan Davis commits to the Texas A&M Aggies

As expected, the big Clear Lake pass-catcher wasn’t on the market for long.

A big loss for the Florida State Seminoles quickly became a big gain for the Texas A&M Aggies, as 2015 Houston (Texas) Clear Lake tight end Jordan Davis committed to the Aggies hours after ending his pledge to the Seminoles.

The 6'5, 250-pound Davis is one of the top 10 tight ends in the country, according to 247Sports, and is ranked as a four-star prospect. Holding offers from Arizona State, Florida, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas, Davis had some high-profile options on the table already, but decided for a second time he didn't need to see anything more.

Davis often lines up as a wide receiver for Clear Lake, and the ability to continue doing so in head coach Kevin Sumlin's Air Raid offense is likely appealing to him. After all, all tight ends like to be told they are a big wide receiver instead of just being forced to do the dirty work and blocking. Look for him to work inside as a flex tight end in the middle of the field and then move outside to use his big frame on jump balls in the red zone.

Of course, the A&M staff isn't telling Davis that just to get him signed and on campus -- he is actually a remarkably strong athlete for his size, registering a 37.5-inch vertical at the Dallas NFTC and turning in a 4.44 shuttle time that is impressive for someone sitting right near 250 pounds. Davis presents a big target for his current and future quarterbacks with his ability to find soft spots in zone defenses over the middle. With strong hands, he can finish plays after using his speed and agility to create separation.

The decision by Davis to decommit leaves Florida State with two commitments in the 2015 class, while the Clear Lake tight end is the first commitment for the Aggies in the cycle, even though they have extended more than 25 offers. Davis isn't expected to be the lone commit for long, though, as star Gladewater (Texas) defensive tackle Daylon Mack could commit to Texas A&M as soon as this weekend.
