Coach tells No. 1 recruit he can meet Michael and/or Tito Jackson

College football coaches are very in touch with pop culture.

National No. 1 2014 recruit Da’Shawn Hand was in Columbus this weekend for an Ohio State visit and the Nike Football Training Camp. He talked to SB Nation about his visit and his recruitment.

He also talked to Bruce Feldman about the most absurd thing any coach has said to him so far:

I ain’t gonna say any names, but one coach told me that since I’m the No. 1 player, I’m gonna get to meet Michael Jackson. I said, “Isn’t he already dead?” The coach goes, “Well, all right, you can meet Tito.” I was like, all right. OK, I’m done.

It was crazy, but it is what it is.

Michael Jackson died three years ago, and the height of Tito Jackson’s fame came about 25 years before Hand was born. Hand is being most heavily recruited by Michigan and Virginia Tech, but this really could’ve come from any coach at any school in the country, and okay yes fine it’s totally gotta be Bud Foster.

Anyway:
