David Cornwell cleared to play senior season: Top QB recruit still undecided on college

Cornwell is ready for his senior year and to end his recruiting process.

David Cornwell, one of the top quarterback recruits in the country, will be able to play his senior season. This, after the QB won his appeal against the Oklahoma Secondary School Athletics Association (OSSAA). The OSSAA had contended that Cornwell was out of eligibility because he started high school in 2009.

In 2011, however, Cornwell was out of football and school when he took the semester off to care for his mother, who was battling a serious medical issue.

“I’m very excited to be ruled eligible to play my senior year at Norman North,” Cornwell said in a released statement. “I’m really looking forward to getting on the field with my teammates and playing the game that I’ve loved since I was a child. I also want to thank my family, friends and teammates for their support, including the Norman North coaching staff and administration.”

Cornwell is a 6’5, 230-pound phenom with good athleticism and a huge arm. He is believed to be Alabama’s top quarterback target and is also No. 1 on the board for several other major schools.

I asked Cornwell about his recruitment Friday, and he said that with the eligibility issue out of the way, he will take a visit to Virginia Tech next week and then will be ready to make his decision.
