2015 S Johnny Shaw flips to the Texas Longhorns from TCU Horned Frogs

The Sunday mini-camp for Texas turned into a big-time recruiting ay for the ‘Horns.

USA TODAY Sports

The second pledge of Sunday's mini-camp for the Texas Longhorns wasn't the first commitment for Center (Texas) safety Johnny Shaw, who switched his pledge to the 'Horns from the TCU Horned Frogs.

The 6’2, 190-pound safety committed to head coach Gary Patterson and his staff at TCU on a visit in May, but decided an offer from the Longhorns on Sunday was enough to change his mind. Ranked as the no. 18 prospect in the state in the 2015 LSR Top 100, Shaw’s only other offer was from the Horned Frogs. He’s not yet rated by the services, but if Rivals agrees with the LSR rankings, it would make him a four-star prospect possibly in the 5.9 range.

Shaw explained to Scout why it took so little time for him to change his mind about his college destination:

One of three 2015 pledges for the Longhorns on Sunday, Shaw was the fifth commit in a class that currently sits at six. The other for-sure defensive back in the class, Corpus Christi Flour Bluff’s Jalen Campbell, recently tore his knee ligaments in his school’s spring game, though Texas initially told Sunday commit Keke Coutee, an athlete from Lufkin (Texas), that they are recruiting him as a cornerback.
