DJ Williams favoring Miami and Oklahoma

The big defensive tackle has yet to take the defining visits of his recruitment.

LEANDER, Texas -- Two schools with childhood ties are standing out for Lufkin (Texas) defensive tackle DJ Williams, who was quick to tell SB Nation Recruiting last week that the Miami Hurricanes and the Oklahoma Sooners are the two schools that are standing out in his recruitment.

The consensus three-star prospect also holds offers from Kansas, Missouri, and North Texas, but the Hurricanes were the “dream school” for Williams as he grew up watching the dominate Miami defenses. For Oklahoma, the appeal came in the playing days of Adrian Peterson, an East Texas product himself who made his way north of the Red River to gain his fame.

There’s still plenty left to do for Williams in his recruitment, as he hasn’t yet had a chance to visit either school, though he does plan on making his first trip to Florida next month.

Tulsa wants him to come in for a visit with promises of an offer, while Williams also indicated that he has been in contact with Texas and believes that they could also be close after he visited for the Sophomore Day they held back in March.

Would the Longhorns seriously enter his recruitment if they offered? Williams indicated that they would, but said they would be third behind Miami and Oklahoma.

As for the two schools atop his list, his upcoming visits, whether they happen before the football season or on his officials during the fall, will be the difference.
