Dominique Booth commits to the Tennessee Volunteers

A good Tennessee class got better on Friday.

USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Volunteers are finally hot on the recruiting trail once again in the current cycle, momentum that continued on Friday with the commitment of consensus four-star Indianapolis (Ind.) Pike wide receiver Dominique Booth.

Ranked as the No. 24 wide receiver nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings, Booth is considered the second-best player in Indiana by the same rankings, as well as the No. 178 player in the country. With about 24 offers from around the country, Booth is a highly-coveted prospect who held offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida State, Texas A&M, and many others.

The decision was hardly a surprise -- in the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, the industry consensus was unanimous that Booth would end up on Rocky Top. In fact, 247Sports recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong tweeted out that the 6’1, 200-pounder has been a silent commit to head coach Butch Jones and his staff for a month now.

A prospect with good top-end speed, what sets him apart are his feet. He’s quick enough to create separation from defenders by getting in and out of his breaks quickly, a skill that translate to his post-catch ability. With the ball in his hands, Booth is just as impressive making defenders miss in small spaces with slide and jump cuts that would make straight-line running backs jealous. His size will keep him from playing as a split end receiver in college and his ball skills aren’t his strength, so he’s not going to be a jump-ball specialist in college, but he does project as a strong threat to create big plays in between the 20s.

With Booth’s commitment, the Volunteer class now stands at 22 pledges and ranks as the top group nationally. The Indiana product is the second four-star wide receiver to commit in the class.
