Versatile safety Trey Marshall committed to Florida State Wednesday at The Opening, a national showcase for top recruits in the Class of 2014. Marshall is the 16th Seminole commit during this recruiting cycle.
Trey Marshall commits to Florida State over Ole Miss
The four-star safety chooses the nearby Seminoles from a host of offers.

Out of Lake City (Fla.) Columbia High School, Marshall is a four-star prospect, according to 247Sports and Scout, and Rivals rates him as a three-star. He chose FSU over several offers in the Southeast, including Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida and Louisville. Marshall stands 5’11 and weighs in at 193 pounds.
SB Nation recruiting expert Bud Elliott likes Marshall and believes he’ll be one of the better safeties in his class:
As a safety, does not profile as a true center fielder, but should be able to take a deep half effectively, and I would trust him to be a plus defender in robber coverage. As a cornerback, he can be physical with opposing receivers from the nickel position. I do not think Marshall has the true long speed to be a cornerback on an island.
I’m comfortable saying that Marshall one of the 20 best safeties I’ve scouted in 2014, and he could be even better.
Marshall was a standout defensive back at The Opening this week, solidifying his place among the best safety prospects in the nation.
