There have been concerns around the margins for some time that the second-rated prospect in the Texas A&M recruiting class, La Porte (Texas) linebacker Hoza Scott, may not be eligible to play in college when he leaves his Houston-area high school.

The news coming out of La Porte isn’t positive at this time.
On the heels of a report from the Houston Chronicle that Scott may not play in La Porte’s first contest this season, concern is increasing ($), according to a 247Sports report, that Scott may not be able to play at all this season, his senior year of high school. Scott’s head coach at La Porte, Jeff LaReau, told the Chronicle that Scott needs to “take care of business” to see the field, ostensibly referring to his academic progress.
Scott was also suspended one game last season for an unspecified violation of team rules, but later said that he learned from that incident.
The 6’2, 220-pounder is a consensus four-star prospect ranked among the top 40 players in the country, so the potential loss to the A&M recruiting class would be a significant one, especially as the Aggies work to build a defense that can help head coach Kevin Sumlin’s Airraid offense sustain success in the rugged SEC.
Right now it’s too early to make any conclusive declarations about Scott’s short-term future with La Porte or his long-term future at Texas A&M, but the signs at the moment are not especially positive.
