Joe Mixon, a consensus five-star running back in the class of 2014, announced via Twitter Monday that he trimmed his list to five schools. Mixon said he will attend either Florida, Oregon, Oklahoma, Wisconsin or California; he did not hint at which school he might be leaning toward.

Mixon stands 6’2, weighs 195 pounds and is widely regarded as one of the top 25 players in his class. Rivals considers him the top running back prospect in the nation and the No. 10 player overall. He’s ranked 12th overall by 247Sports, while Scout has him at No. 19.

Mixon is at his best when he is able to hit a seam and get going downhill, although he will bounce outside on occasion in an effort to use his speed. He runs with good velocity in between the tackles and finishes runs aggressively, but will need to fill out his 6’2, 195-pound frame due to his slender build in order for that attribute to fully translate to the college level. While the power element of his game is still evolving, the main ingredient of his skill set (and what has attracted such an impressive amount of suitors) is his ability to consistently win footraces in the open field.
Mixon already has several official visits lined up for football season, according to 247Sports. He is planning to visit Cal in September, followed by trips to Oklahoma and Wisconsin in October.
Last season, he ran for 1,443 yards, averaging more than seven yards per carry in the process. He also had 383 receiving yards, and he scored a total of 26 touchdowns.
