Syracuse football recruiting 2013: K.J. Williams headlines class

Scott Shafer’s first Syracuse recruiting class isn’t particularly star-studded at this point in the cycle, but he has gotten pledges from some solid talent in the Northeast. The Orange’s 11-man class currently ranks 58th nationally, according to 247Sports, and is regarded as the 12th-best group in the ACC.

Most of their commitments were on board by early July, though they did add running back Ervin Philips and wide receiver Jamal Custis in the last couple of weeks. Both players are consensus three-star prospects.

K.J. Williams, an athlete out of Bethlehem (Pa.) Liberty High School, is Syracuse’s headliner right now. He’s rated a four-star prospect by the 247Sports composite, and he is regarded as one of the top 15 athletes in the 2014 class. He could end up at several different positions, including wide receiver and safety.

Zaire Franklin, a linebacker from Glenside (Pa.) La Salle College High School, is a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports composite. He is the 55th-best outside linebacker prospect in the country and a consensus top-25 player from Pennsylvania.

Jamal Custis, as mentioned earlier, is a three-star wide receiver. The Philadelphia (Pa.) Neumann Goretti High School product is considered the 110th-best receiver in the class and a top-30 player in the state of Pennsylvania.
