Southern Cal has just seven commitments in its 2014 recruiting class, which is one reason why the group ranks 61st nationally in the 247Sports composite team rankings. The Trojans’ class also ranks ninth in the Pac-12, but quantity is definitely a factor -- USC’s class has the highest average prospect rating of any team in the league.

The Trojans added defensive end Malik Dorton in August, but it has otherwise been a quiet couple of months for the program. The uncertainty surrounding Lane Kiffin’s future with USC probably isn’t helping at this point.
Top Trojans
Toa Lobendahn, an offensive lineman from Lakewood (Calif.) Artesia High School, is a consensus four-star prospect. He is regarded as one of the top-10 offensive guard prospects in the country and one of the nation’s top-130 prospects overall.
Derik Calhoun is a consensus four-star linebacker from El Cerrito (Calif.) High School. He is regarded as one of the top-15 outside linebacker prospects in the nation and ranks among the country’s top-200 prospects overall.
On target
USC is firmly in the mix for several five-star targets, even with the turmoil surrounding coach Lane Kiffin.
Cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, of Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Sierra, is an elite athlete who is also considering Florida. The Trojans are after guard Damien Mama, of Bellfolower (Calif.) St. John Bosco. Mama has incredible feet for his size. USC is also in it for running back Joe Mixon, or Oakley (Calif.) Freedom high school, though Cal is emerging as a major player as well.
