Mississippi State football recruiting 2013: Jamoral Graham, Gerri Green headline Bulldogs’ class

The Bulldogs were busy during the spring and summer securing commitments, including several top in-state players.

Spruce Derden-US PRESSWIRE

Mississippi State has 16 verbals in its 2014 class so far, good enough to rank the class 32nd nationally according to 247Sports, which is a respectable spot. It’s only good enough to rank 13th among SEC teams, though, and that just goes to show how difficult life in that conference can be.

The bulk of the Bulldogs’ recruiting pickups came in May and June, but they’ve added a couple of prospects in recent weeks -- defensive tackle Braxton Hoyett, a consensus three-star recruit, and athlete Gerri Green, who is one of the most talented kids in the class.

Top Dawgs

Jamoral Graham, who hails from Decatur (Miss.) Newton County High School, is a consensus four-star athlete who could end up at wide receiver or safety in college. He is currently the top-rated player in Mississippi State’s class, and a top-15 athlete nationally. He’s also considered one of the top 10 prospects from Mississippi.

Gerri Green, also listed as an athlete, is a four-star prospect as well. The Greenville (Miss.) Western High School product is rated a bit lower than Graham, though he is also regarded as a top-10 prospect in Mississippi. He is projected by some services at outside linebacker.

Aeris Williams is a three-star running back prospect from West Point (Miss.) High School, and like Graham and Green, he is widely regarded as a top-10 prospect in Mississippi. The consensus has him as the 17th-best running back in the class, and No. 329 overall.

Tyler Jones, an offensive lineman from Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson High School, is a three-star prospect regarded as one of the country’s top 35 guard prospects.

On target

Mississippi State is considered a strong favorite for three top prospects.

Cory Thomas, of McCalla (Ala.) McAdory High School, is a very good strong-side defensive end with good size at 6’6 and 270 pounds. He offers great versatility, and is rated a three-star recruit, though that could change later in the year.

Receiver Jesse Jackson, of Petal (MS) High School, is a solid receiver with good hands, and is rated a three-star recruit.

E.J. Moss, a talented athlete out of Ashville (Ala.) is someone for whom Mississippi State will battle Kentucky and Ole Miss.
