Colorado recruiting 2014: Buffaloes near bottom of Pac-12 with small class

CU’s recruiting class is one of the weakest in the Pac-12 so far.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Since joining the Pac-12 in 2011, the once-proud Colorado football program has found itself near the bottom of the both the conference standings and the recruiting rankings. The problem doesn’t stem from the conference shift necessarily -- the Buffaloes haven’t had a winning season since 2005 -- but with just four wins over the past two years, Colorado has a lot of work to do.

CU ranks 62nd in the nation in the 247composite team rankings, which puts them on par for the rest of their recruiting classes in recent memory. They rank tenth in the Pac-12 in the recruiting rankings.

The Buffaloes have just 13 commitments in the class, so there is certainly room to grow, and received five commits in the month of August alone. The two most recent were two-star Jordan (Utah) High School defensive end Christian Shayer and three star Cypress Creek (Texas) High School offensive tackle Elijah Rodriguez.

Top Buffs

Isaac Miller is the star of Colorado’s class. The offensive tackle out of Silver Creek (Colo.) High School is considered a three-star prospect by the 247sports composite. He is rated as the 67th-best offensive tackle in the country and the sixth-best player in the state.

Dylan Keeney is another key part of the 2014 class. The tight end from Granite Bay (Calif.) High School is considered a three-star prospect by the 247sports composite. He is rated as the 39th-best tight end in the country and the 80th-best player in the state.

Cade Aspay is another strong get for the Buffaloes. The quarterback from Canyon (Calif.) High School is rated as a three-star prospect by the 247sports composite. He is considered the 46th-best pro-style quarterback in the country and the 90th-best player in the state.
