Oregon State recruiting 2013: Beavers add Najee Toran, 2 linebackers

Though the Beavers have been picking up some steam in recruiting in the last month, they still lag behind most of the Pac-12.

Thus far, Oregon State has nine commitments for 2014, a class that 247Sports ranks 78th in the country, but dead last in the Pac-12.

Part of this is due to the small size of the Beavers’ class. Half of the teams in the Pac-12 have secured double-digit commitments by now, led by Arizona and its eye-popping total of 24 players. However, part of Oregon State’s low ranking is due to the quality of recruit as well -- according to 247Sports, Oregon State’s average recruit grade is 82.11, a figure that sits 11th in the conference, barely ahead of Colorado’s 81.98.

New Beavers

In the last month, Oregon State has picked up three commitments -- each from three-star players. Guard Najee Toran from Houston (Texas) North Shore recently decided to head to Corvallis, as did outside linebackers Ryan Nall from Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic and Ricky Liuchan from San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills. The 6’3, 265-pound Toran is ranked 37th among guards in the 2014 class and is currently the highest-rated player in Oregon State’s recruiting class with a 247Sports composite score of 85.63.

Cream of the crop

Other highlights of the Beavers’ recruiting class include a commitment from dual-threat quarterback Marcus McMaryion out of Dinuba, Calif., one of the top 50 nationwide at that position, as well as Corvallis native Tanner Sanders, a three-star athlete according to 247Sports composite.

On target

The Beavers would still like to add more to this class, and several prospects come to mind.

First, Oregon State would like to land Kolton Miller, a three-star offensive tackle out of Roseville (Calif.). Miller also holds an offer from Arizona and Arizona State. Running back Squally Canada (yes, that is his awesome name), a three-star back from Milpitas (Calif.), will be a battle against Boise State. And Kendrick Igbinoba, a talented big back out of Richardson (Texas), would be another prize for the Beavers.
