Malkom Parrish recruit scouting report: Cornerback with elite athleticism

Malkom Parrish, a consensus four-star prospect, is expected to play cornerback in college, but he made his name playing quarterback. Parrish has scholarship offers from Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Kentucky.

The 5’9, 186-pounder hails from Quitman (Ga.) Brooks County High School. He is considered a four-star recruit by all of the major services, and most of them agree that he’s a top-10 cornerback prospect.

ESPN ranks him ninth at his position and 73rd overall, which is right in line with the consensus -- Scout considers him the No. 11 cornerback, 247Sports has him at No. 10 and Rivals has him at No. 6. 247Sports considers him the No. 88 overall player in the 2014 class, while Rivals has him at No. 81.

Parrish picked up an offer to play in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl thanks to his high school performance. You can follow him on Twitter here.

Bud Elliott, SB Nation Recruiting: There is a long line of high school quarterbacks who have turned into excellent cornerbacks at the college level. The best among them is a player by the name of Deion Sanders. To be an elite player at Parrish’s size, a player must have excellent change of direction, burst and top-end speed. Parrish has all of those. I’ll be looking for him to take some short passes back the other way for touchdowns in college, because his ability to plays and explode on a football are elite. Many defenses are going toward bigger corners, but most every school in the country would take Parrish because of his tremendous athleticism. Also, while Parrish isn’t tall, he also isn’t small, and could eventually fill out to close to 200 pounds at the college level. And he doesn’t play small, either, showing good toughness, which will help him in run defense at the next level, and strong vertical skills.
