Bijhon Jackson recruit scouting report: Stout nose guard

Student Sports

Consensus four-star defensive tackle Bijhon Jackson had an impressive high school career, and now he’s ready to play at the major-college level. Jackson, who attends El Dorado High School in Arkansas, has scholarship offers from Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas while drawing interest from several other power-conference programs.

Jackson, who has been invited to the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, is 6’2 and weighs 334 pounds. He put up strong numbers as an upperclassman, including a junior season in which he recorded 67 tackles.

He’s widely regarded as the best prospect in Arkansas and a top-10 player at his position. Scout ranks him as the No. 5 DT, while ESPN considers him the No. 6 DT and the 80th-best overall player nationally. He’s ranked 98th overall by 247Sports and 113th by Rivals. Those rankings are a bit lower than the national consensus, which has him at No. 74 overall.

You can follow Jackson on Twitter right here.

Bud Elliott, SB Nation Recruiting: Jackson is a very simple player to scout. He is very wide, not all that tall, extremely powerful and quite difficult to block because he plays with great leverage. There is more to his game, of course, but that’s essentially it: blockers cannot move him off his mark. Jackson is very large in the lower half, with a wide base, and very strong legs and hips. My concern with Jackson is that he is not all that long, an the defenders he faces in college will be longer and may be able to get into Jackson’s body before he can into theirs. He does have powerful hands, however, and will need to continue to develop them to defeat the hands of blockers so that he can put his hands to good use. He is not going to be a great threat as a pass rusher.
