Early enrollees for LSU: Tigers bring in two recruits for spring semester

A four-star safety and a four-star quarterback are scheduled to arrive in Baton Rouge a little early.

Chris Graythen

Enrolling early is a major advantage for recruits who are mentally ready to skip their final semester of high school and begin a college curriculum and weight training program. Additionally, enrolling early allows the recruit to become acclimated with the program and participate in spring practice -- a major leg up on the other incoming players who must wait until the summer to start school.

LSU is welcoming two early enrollees for the 2014 recruiting class, which consists of 18 members including 14 four- and five-stars.

Edward Paris, a four-star safety recruit out of Arlington, Texas Mansfield Timberview High School, will use enrolling early as a big help in his quest to earn a starting position. Paris chose LSU over offers from Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame and USC. He should provide immediate help in the defensive backfield. He is considered the third-best safety in the country and the sixth-best player in the state of Texas. You can check out our scouting report of Paris here.

Paris will be joined in Baton Rouge by Brandon Harris. Harris is an impressive quarterback out of Bossier City (La.) Parkway High School. Harris rated 4-stars by the 247sports composite -- a combination of the four major recruit rating services, and is rated the third dual-threat quarterback recruit nationally. He also held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State and Texas A&M. Here’s our scouting report of Harris.

Still to come

LSU also holds non-binding verbal commitments from several star recruits it hopes to sign on February 5, National Signing Day.

The best of the unsigned commitments for LSU is Leonard Fournette, a five-star running back recruit out of New Orleans, La. St. Augustine High School. Fournette chose LSU over offers from Alabama, Auburn and Florida State. He is the top-ranked recruit in the class. Here’s our scouting report on him.

Jamal Adams is another five-star verbal commit for the Tigers. Out of Carrolton, Texas Hebron High School, Adams is considered the second-best safety in the class and the 27th-best overall prospect. He chose LSU over offers from Texas, Florida and Texas A&M. Check out our scouting report on Adams.
