Damon Webb recruit scouting report: A pest for receivers

Wescott Eberts -- SB Nation

One of the top players in the state of Michigan, Damon Webb is looking to take the college football world by storm next season.

Webb is listed at 5’11 and weighs 180 pounds, and he attends Cass Technical (Mich.) High School. He hails from Detroit and plays cornerback, where he is rated as a consensus four-star. ESPN rates Webb as the eighth-best cornerback in the country, Rivals ranks him fifth among corners in the class, 247sports has him eighth in their cornerback rankings and Scout lists him sixth at the position. The 247sports composite ranks him as the 41st-best player in the country, the sixth-best cornerback in the class, and the second-best player in the state of Michigan.

Webb has received a bevy of offers from a variety of high-profile schools, including Ohio State, Illinois, Indiana, Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

He can be found on Twitter at @DameWebb.

Bud Elliott, National Recruiting Analyst: Webb is one of my favorite recruits in the class of 2014. In the Midwest, defensive back play is often lacking, and receivers have great days because the best players play offense more than in other regions. During the Columbus regional stop on the Nike tour, I watched Webb take rep after rep, despite the fast that he was getting really tired out due to the lack of quality defensive backs. Other elite players may have ducked the competition, but not Webb.

The tireless work that Webb showed that day shows up in his game. Webb really sticks with receivers and is a constant pest. At a time in which teams are obsessed with signing big corners, Webb has the game to rank right there with any. His long speed is not great, but he has great agility, quickness and instincts that will serve him well at Ohio State.
