Zaycoven Henderson makes three DT de-commits for Texas Longhorns

The defensive tackle class for the Horns was decimated on Tuesday.

The Texas Longhorns started Tuesday with three defensive tackle commits and ended it with zero following the de-commitment of Longview (Texas) consensus four-star prospect Zaycoven Henderson, first reported by Inside Texas and then confirmed by Orangebloods on Wednesday morning.

However, while 247Sports has removed Henderson from the commitment list for Texas, Horns247 is reporting that Henderson told another Texas commit that he has not completely made up his mind. So, there’s that.

There's certainly precedent with Henderson for news to start coming out about a decision before he had completely made up his mind, as multiple conflicting reports emerged about his de-commitment from the TCU Horned Frogs back in September until he took to Twitter to clarify the situation.

On Wednesday, however, Henderson's Crystal Ball predictions started to trend in favor of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, with three 247Sports analysts in Texas all changing their projections to the Red Raiders, a school that was not mentioned in the top six Henderson released in September following his de-commitment from TCU.

The 6’1, 280-pound Henderson is a Semper Fi All-American ranked as the No. 23 defensive tackle nationally and No. 33 player in the state of Texas. He has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, SMU, TCU, and Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders have been in serious need of help at the defensive tackle position, the likely selling point for head coach Kliff Kingsbury and his staff with Henderson..

Meanwhile, the Longhorns are now in desperate need of help at the position, too. Tuesday began with three pledges at the position for Texas, but following the departure of defensive tackle coach Bo Davis to USC, San Antonio (Texas) Warren defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao, a longtime soft commit, officially de-committed, followed shortly thereafter by New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine defensive tackle Courtney Garnett, who is not expected to qualify.

After missing on A'Shawn Robinson and Andrew Billings in the 2013 class, the Longhorns will now be scrambling to find warm bodies on the interior and could be feeling the effects of all the misses and de-commitments at the position for years on the depth chart if new head coach Charlie Strong can't land a couple plays in the weeks leading up to National Signing Day.
