Five-star Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton High School prospect Osa Masina committed to USC in a ceremony at his high school Friday, ending the recruitment of the top player in the state. Arizona State and UCLA were the other finalists for the outside linebacker prospect.
Osa Masina commits: USC adds 5-star Utah LB
The Trojans bring in the top player in the state.

Listed at 6’3.5 and 230 pounds, Masina is considered the 35th-best prospect in the country by the 247Sports Composite. He is rated as the third-best outside linebacker in the country, but could also play running back at the next level. He’s considered the second-best player in the Trojans’ class behind five-star McEachern (Ga.) offensive guard Chuma Edoga.
Masina took official visits to UCLA and Arizona State in October, visiting USC in November. He also received offers from Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Michigan, Oregon and Stanford, among others. His commitment leaves eight five-star players still on the board in 2015.
USC is one of a few schools still competing for second place behind Alabama in the 2015 recruiting rankings, and Masina’s commitment is a big boost to their candidacy. SB Nation’s Bud Elliott notes USC is favored to land a number of high-profile targets to complete their class.
Top targets include Marshall, widely considered the No. 1 cornerback, Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra five-star defensive lineman Rasheem Green and Salt Lake City Brighton five-star linebacker Osa Masina. USC is also in very strong position to land a pair of four-star linebackers in Salem Hills’ (Utah) Porter Gustin and Serra’s John Houston. USC is seen as the favorite for all five, and as a heavy favorite for Marshall, Green, and Gustin.
