4-star defensive end Isaiah Chambers has taken several Texas A&M recruiting visits

Houston’s Isaiah Chambers could turn into a 285-pound collegiate defensive end and prefers to not play defensive tackle.

Out of Houston’s Aldine Mcarthur High School, Isaiah Chambers is one of the best defensive ends in the country. A four-star on the 247Sports Composite. He is 6’4, 255 pounds and, on Sunday, competed at the Nike Opening Regional in Dallas. Chambers holds offers from more than 20 schools, including the likes of Florida State, Oregon and Texas A&M.

Chambers has a great frame, but most schools are recruiting him as a defensive end, which is something he’s happy about.

“I don’t want to play defensive tackle,” Chambers said. “I want to come off the edge, like as a buck end.”

Chambers is taking his time with the recruiting process.

“I’m pretty open to all schools,” Chambers said, indicating that he would try to have a list of 10 schools by the summer.

Two current offers really stood out to him so far in the process.

“The Ole Miss and Florida State offers were shocking,” Chambers said, noting that’s because they don’t recruit the state of Texas all that much.

In-state

In-state, three schools are standing out to Chambers: Baylor, TCU and Texas A&M.

“I’ve been to A&M five or six times,” Chambers said, indicating that A&M is a school standing out to him. “It’s right by my home, I went to three games, spring practice, junior day.”

Texas A&M running backs coach Clarence McKinney is his recruiter.

“We’re real cool,” Chambers said. “We tell each other how we feel.”

Longhorns?

Chambers has not heard from the Texas Longhorns.

“Nah, nothing at all,” he said, indicating that he did not even know who his recruiter was from the Longhorns. He did say that he would like to hear more from Texas.

Visits and timeline

As far as visits coming up, Chambers plans to see Ole Miss on the weekend of March 20, and wants to get to TCU and Baylor practices this spring as well.

Chambers plans to make his decision closer to National Signing Day and said that playing time and his relationship with the coaching staff will play into his decision.
