4-star defensive tackle Kendell Jones has been hearing a lot from Texas

The Longhorns have been coming after the big defensive tackle hard.

Kendell Jones is already massive at 6'4, 315 pounds, and he has the ratings to back it up. The Killeen (Texas) Shoemaker star is a consensus four-star recruit, and is rated as one of the top 10 players in the state of Texas in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He stopped by with at the Nike Opening Regional in Dallas to talk with SB Nation Recruiting's Wescott Eberts, and like many other players there, the Texas Longhorns were on his mind.

Jones later earned an invitation to The Opening with his performance after dominating in one-on-one drills:

On Texas

Jones has visited the Longhorns in Austin several times, most recently at Junior Day in February. “I’m very interested in them. The coaching staff especially, the academics, they let me know a lot of stuff about the NCAA and rules, they’re the first ones to tell me about it.” He’s also familiar with new Texas defensive line coach Brick Haley, who he knew from attending a camp at LSU before Haley came to Austin.

All told, he said that Texas is the program recruiting him the hardest, and at this point he’s heard from every program he wanted to hear from. Aside from the Longhorns, he holds offers from Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, LSU and more.

Visits and timeline

Jones said he doesn’t have any visits scheduled at this time, but would like to visit Baylor at some point this spring. He doesn’t have a timetable yet for announcing his commitment.
