Chris Owens is a four-star prospect about of Arlington (Texas) Lamar, and can play on both the offensive and defensive line. At 6’3 and 307 pounds, he has the size to play on the interior of either line. SB Nation Recruiting’s Wescott Eberts caught up with Owens at the Nike Opening Regional in Dallas, and went over how the recruiting process is playing out for him.
Versatile lineman Chris Owens getting lots of attention
Will it be the Longhorns, Aggies, or someone else?

Longhorns and Aggies
Owens showed up to the Dallas event wearing a Texas A&M hoodie, but insisted it was just the first thing he grabbed and that there wasn’t any deeper meaning behind it. When he was asked about his recruitment so far, it was clear that the Aggies and Longhorns are both actively trying to court him.
Texas, which just offered Owens back on March 6, currently has the commitment of four-star quarterback Shane Buechele, who happens to be friends with Owens. Buechele has been in Owens’ ear about coming to Texas, but it sounds like his mom is most excited about the two, who have been friends since second grade, playing together.
“Yeah, we have, especially our moms. My mom always jokes that there’ll be an E:60 about us.”
He’s already taken visits to Duke, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, TCU, and SMU. When asked which teams were recruiting him the hardest, Owens said about 10 programs are coming after him pretty hard, but Texas, Texas A&M, and Arkansas were probably the three doing the most work.
Visits and timeline
Owens said that he’s not putting a date on when he’s going to commit, but he would like to do so before the season starts. He doesn’t have any other visits set up right now, but would like to visit both Texas and Texas A&M soon.
