Due to recently undergoing surgery, Nacogdoches (Texas) safety Brandon Jones wasn’t able to participate in The Opening Dallas Regional on Sunday in Arlington, but he did show up to support friends and teammates.
LSU is one school to make up ground with 5-star S Brandon Jones
Recent visits helped a number of schools close the gap on Texas A&M.

While there, he spoke with SB Nation Recruiting about the current status of his recruitment.
The nation’s top safety admitted that the Texas A&M Aggies used to be in the lead for his services, but other schools have been able to close the gap recently as he’s taken other visits.
“At first, Texas A&M was my only college visit, but after getting out to see other schools, I was able to see what they have compared to A&M,” Jones said.
One of those programs is the LSU Tigers. Head coach Les Miles got the 5'11, 183-pounder on campus recently for a Junior Day and Jones said that he enjoyed the experience. One factor in favor of the Tigers is the school's reputation as DBU.
Alabama, Ohio State, Baylor, and TCU are also in the group of schools to surge recently with Jones. He also mentioned Texas, a school he will visit in several weeks for the Texas Relays. While in Austin, he hopes to spend some time with the coaching staff and meet some current players.
When he visited Tuscaloosa last summer, he came away impressed with the program’s overall focus and the immense amount of talent on campus.
Likely to make a decision after his high school season in the fall, Jones said he plans to take his official visits, including possible trips to Ohio State and Oregon, assuming the Ducks extend an offer in the near future as promised.
When he does commit, Jones said that the ability of his family to see him play will factor into his decision, a significant obstacle for the out-of-state schools to overcome.
Jones is a consensus five-star prospect ranked as the No. 20 player overall and the No. 3 player in Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
