Now holding close to 20 offers, few prospects in the state of Texas have been as highly targeted over the last several months as Houston Westside defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, who spoke with SB Nation Recruiting on Sunday in Arlington before he participated in the Dallas The Opening regional camp.
Rising 4-star DT Jordan Elliott ‘solid’ to Baylor, still taking visits
Will those trips be enough to flip his pledge from the Bears?
Committed to Baylor since late January, just as his recruitment was starting to take off, the 6’4, 305-pounder recently took another visit to Waco and said that he was “all in” with the Bears at that time. On Sunday, he voiced that he’s “solid” to Baylor, but said that he would continue taking visits because the recruiting process is a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Even after taking in a Texas A&M Junior Day less than two weeks ago, Elliott rattled off a significant list of things that he likes about the Baylor program -- the facilities, atmosphere, coaches and more.
“It was just a great experience that led me to commit,” he said of the Junior Day visit that earned his pledge. “I like the defense, so it was a perfect fit.”
Elliott believes that Baylor defense will continue to ascend as it has over recent seasons.
“I think they’re going to be dominant. Like one of the best in the country.”
What visits will the country’s No. 33 player by 247Sports take? He listed Alabama, Florida State, Michigan and Texas as schools he would like to see in the next several months. Elliott said that he talks to Texas head coach Charlie Strong and defensive coordinator Vance Bedford once every two days, while listing Florida State and Michigan as offers that surprised him when they came in. Florida State is appealing because of the recent success along the defensive line, and Elliott believes that new head coach Jim Harbaugh will turn things around in Ann Arbor.
Elliott is a consensus four-star prospect ranked as the No. 137 recruit, the No. 13 defensive tackle, and the No. 17 prospect in Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
