Setting the national single-season record with 39 touchdown catches last fall put Navasota (Texas) wide receiver Tren’Davian Dickson on the national radar, making him a hot commodity on the recruiting trail in 2015.
Former Baylor WR commit Tren’Davian Dickson still considering the Bears
However, another in-state school is surging in the productive wide receiver’s recruitment.

After recently decommitting from the Baylor Bears, Dickson spoke with SB Nation Recruiting at the Dallas The Opening regional camp on Sunday in Arlington.
The 6’1, 178-pounder said that he decommitted from Baylor in February because of “some personal things,” but he’s still considering the Bears. He originally pledged to head coach Art Briles and his program because of the high-octane Baylor offense and the family atmosphere produced by the coaching staff.
“Development and growth as a person and an athlete” are the two biggest factors for Dickson, though he also said that he would look at the quarterback depth charts of each school he’s considering.
Based on the recent ability of the Bears to put wide receivers in the NFL, Briles and company should have a chance to land a recommitment from Dickson in the future. In fact, Dickson showed up to the event wearing a Baylor jacket.
However, the hot team in his recruitment following his decommitment is Texas A&M -- all 10 of the predictions in his 247Sports Crystal Ball are for the Aggies.
The proximity of College Station to Navasota makes it easy for Dickson to attend events at Texas A&M, so he said a recent visit for the Friday Night Lights event didn’t change much, but he did say that he likes the coaches and facilities there. Texas A&M coaches are pitching him on becoming a part of the national title-winning Aggie team, as well as selling his fit in the Air Raid offense run by head coach Kevin Sumlin.
Currently “open to everything,” Dickson isn’t ready to name a leader.
He also hasn’t visited Texas since last spring, so he’s trying to set up a visit to Austin. The reputation of head coach Charlie Strong is one factor that could help the Horns.
“He’s a good coach, a very strict coach,” Dickson said. “He’s a coach who could help you develop good character.”
Dickson would like to take his official visits in the fall before making his decision some time during his senior season. Before then, he would like to visit West Coast schools like USC and Oregon, though he hasn’t yet sat down to set those up.
Ranked as the No. 104 prospect, Dickson is the No. 18 wide receiver and the No. 14 player in Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
